Girl Hugging Horse

Child &
Teen Riders

For the young rider, the path through the junior ranks is full of challenges and personal development opportunities that can be a valuable life experience. Whether they are competing in their first lead-line class or moving up to the high juniors, equestrian sport offers a unique classroom for life. However, the intensity of competition, the weight of expectations, and the mental, physical and time this sport demands can sometimes feel overwhelming for a developing mind.

In a world of high-stakes ribbons and social media pressure, I help young riders find their "quiet center." By learning to regulate their emotions and focus, they become more than just better competitors; they become more resilient, empathetic, and confident individuals in all areas of life.

Why Mental Performance Matters

Key Benefits for the Child & Teen Riders

As an experienced child and adolescent Psychologist, I know that the psychological development of children and teenagers is a unique space.  Young riders process pressure, failure, and success differently than adults. My approach is rooted in developmental psychology, ensuring that the mental tools we build are age-appropriate, engaging, and designed to foster a lifelong love for the horse.

My goal is to support your child in becoming a steady, mindful partner for their horse. When a young rider learns to master their mindset, they don't just win in the ring—they gain the mental strength to navigate the world with strength and confidence.

Performance Psychology sessions help child and teen rider with:

  • Confidence & Self-Esteem: Building a healthy "inner coach" that replaces self-criticism with constructive learning.

  • Emotional Regulation: Providing practical tools to manage "show-day nerves," frustration, or the disappointments that comes with the ups and downs of working with horses.

  • The "Horse-First" Perspective: We use the horse as a powerful motivator for personal growth. Young people are often more willing to do the "work" of mindset training when they understand it is the greatest gift they can give their equine partner.

  • Translatable Life Skills: The resilience, discipline, and emotional intelligence cultivated in the arena are the same skills needed to navigate exam stress, social dynamics, and future career challenges.

  • A High-Quality Investment: Investing in performance psychology isn't just about a round in the ring; it’s an investment in your child’s mental health and character. We are building a toolkit they will carry long after they have outgrown their current pony.
